They make ‘right’ decisions, analyze, make smart choices. And… are experiencing mental health challenges. Many of my Tech Professional clients rely on their rational mind.
This happens because the emotional side of themselves is not getting enough attention. The skill of recognizing one’s own emotions, and paying attention to their messages is overshadowed by a strong analytical mind. The emotional ‘voice’ is quiet.
I used to live a mind-driven life. When everything was going according to my plan, I was satisfied. Not happy, no. Because of always-accompanying inner critique, who was never satisfied. My emotional spectrum was black and white. And the tolerance to unpredictability was close to 0.
8 years of therapy later, I live the fullest years of my emotional life ever. I feel deep feelings in little things – tasty cup of coffee, lilac blossom smell, pretty family walking by. Devastating sadness of reading news from my home country Ukraine. All the feelings go through my body as an ocean wave. I’ve learned not to push them aside, nor fight them.
Profoundly developed emotional skills are like speaking a new language. At first, it was very hard. Once mastered – becomes a part of the self and unlocks unexpected treasures of your depth and humanity.

Where on the spectrum are you today?
