That’s exactly the thing.
Your passion is like a fire. You burn with ideas, solutions, a wish to collaborate, create, release and make the world happy. Your dopamine is high.
Three mechanisms that turn passion into burnout:
1. You overcompensate.
You notice others in your team are less passionate. So you overcompensate with your own leadership.
2. You hit the wall of results.
Things don’t move as fast as your passion demands. Disappointment knocks on the door.
3. Your body sends the bill.
First 6 months+ on a project drains the initial excitement and drive. You took a credit from your body. Now it asks to pay back – with interest.
These three combined are a classical burnout recipe for passionate people.
Could you change your nature and be less passionate? I don’t think so.
What helps is knowing your natural cycles. A sparkling start. A slower middle. A steady performance going forward. Do not expect to be excited about the same thing for years – we can’t trick physiology.
